Lighting, Light Fixtures, Ceiling and Exhaust Fans - hunter fan light control--can it just control the fan?

I have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with a light. The fan is always on with the black wire, pull chain control. The light is controlled by the wall switch (and pull chain) from the red wire.
Can I use a "Hunter 27157 ON/OFF fan and light remote control" to hook up the fan to the remote and leave the light controlled by the wall switch?
Would I just cap off the extra hot wire from the antenna box and not use it for the light? And hook ALL the greens together with a wire nut and ALL whites together with a wire nut?
Is that appropriate? safe??
I was told at the store that I could set up the remote for just the fan (and leave the light alone), but it does not seem that simple (or safe)when I got it home and looked at the wiring.
I don't want the fireworks to be inside my house today!!

Welcome to the forums! De energize the circuit. Leave the light wiring alone and hook up the remote as directed, except cap off the blue wire to the receiver. That way the fan will be controlled by the remote and the light will only be controlled by the switch, on and off, no dimming, etc.
