We just bought this house several weeks ago. It was foreclosed so the previous owner just took everything and left. There is a vista-10se security system from protect 1 i think. I dont wanna pay the monthly subscription for the fire department and the police and what not. Is there a way to make it work without that? I dont have the code but it says ready on the keypad. any ideas?

If you read through the sticky titled "Alarm Forum FAQ: Please read before posting" You will find the instructions for how to extract the installer code from a Vista series panel.

Above is a site with the installer manual. On page 21-1 are the instructions for setting a new master user code by using the installer code.

The best you can do with this system is use the "pager" setup to call your phone. All you will get is your phone number on caller ID.
