My daughter just bought a Frigidaire dryer model # FEQ332ES. She moved into an apartment and needed a stacked unit so she got a frontload washer dryer unit. We mounted the dryer to the washer, wired the cord to the dryer (3-prong) and plugged it in and ran it for a couple minutes. I noticed heat at the top, back of the dryer and a little smoke. Is the likely problem the outlet (which was just installed), or my wiring of the dryer cord? I just unplugged it immediately. I saw nothing to suggest a certain way to wire the cord. Hope I didn't screw it up. Thanks for any replies.

Sounds like you will have to double check your wiring. So take a look and describe exactly what you did. Pictures if necessary. Photobucket.com And watch for any scorch marks to identify where wires may have been touching. I would suggest not plugging it in again until you hear from the pros.

Be safe
Bud

Is this a 120 or 240 volt unit? Most likely the receptical, if in an existing laundry area, was 240 volt. Could it be that your stack unit is only 120 volt?

This is a brand new dryer. It smoked a little too much, I think. And the heat was obviously too much. My wife works at an electric company and a coworker is gonna look at it. It is a 240 volt unit. I'm going with Bud9051's suggestion about the pros looking at it. Thanks all!

Were you certain you got each 120 volt leg hooked to the correct terminals? In the dryer itself, the hot legs are the outer 2 screws and the center screw is neutral. And were you sure you chose the correct wires of the cord when doing so?
