Someone left a plastic bag on top of my red toaster oven and it melted onto the finish. How can I remove the plastic without damaging the red finish?

The next time you use the toaster, try wiping it off with a paper towel while it is still hot. other than that, i would try a mr. clean magic eraser (while toaster is cool). that might scratch the paint though. try it in a hidden area first.

I really appreciate all the good advice I've gotten here. I thought you might like to know how I fared. I have tried goo gone, alcohol, and ammonia with no success. I also tried hot hot water with no success. Someone else suggested acetone, but I didn't try that because I felt there was a good chance it would take the red finish off.
