Is there any way to remove the urethane top coat without damaging the finish below. I have cabinets that have a white base coat (oil base enamel) that was glazed over with SW glaze and then topcoated. When one of the doors became damaged, I sanded down, primed, base coated, glazed and used an oil based urethane - which REALLY yellowed. This door stands our like a sore thumb. Can I use some steel wool or fine grit to remove the urethane? Is there a solvent? Or am I going to have to start from scratch??

I have no idea how this will work in your specific circumstance but on items like furniture with a stain and then top coat of urethane products known as "refinisher" will remove the top coat while not stripping to the bare wood.

That said I'm not sure if you can actually not damage what's under your poly while removing that poly. You may have to start from scratch and take everything off.FYI:water based polyurethanes don't yellow.
