Hello. Has anyone tried putting down pebble tile? I'm placing it in my bathroom, but I have two different subfloors: concrete (which was underneath the carpet) and plywood (which was underneath the vinyl flooring. How do I prep the floors? Do I need to put plywood over the concrete? Or remove the plywood? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!

Make sure the concrete is clean and not painted. If there are cracks in the concrete, then you might think about adding a membrane, like Schluter Ditra or other liquid membrane.

For the plywood:

How thick is this plywood? If it's just a 1/4" thick with the vinyl attached, I would remove it all. Tell us what you have under there in regards to thickness and suck. Typically, you would need to install a cement backerboard or Ditra membrane over plywood, then tile.

Thanks for the advice on the concrete. As for the plywood subfloor (which was under the vinyl/lineoleum) I don't know how thick it is. I can't seem to pull it up in any areas. I have completely removed all pieces of flooring and adhesive, down to the bare wood. Since I can't remove it easily, could I prep the plywood and tile over it? If I place cement backerboard over it to prep, I believe the two subfloors will not be the same level. Do I then put a self leveling material on the concrete to bring it up to the same level as the plywood + cement backerboard?

p.s. It's hot here in TX too!

Can you explain your situation a little better? Is this plywood over a framed floor, or somehow laminated to the concrete? It sounds odd that a concrete slab floor and a wood framed floor would be at the same level?

Maybe too late to get a response here but: the floor in the sink area/dressing area is concrete (under carpet), the floor in the bath area appears to be plywood (under lineoleum). Sorry about the confusion and thanks for your advice.
