We're looking at getting central AC installed in our 5 year old home. We already have the ductwork as we heat with forced hot air. One estimate was for a Goodman 2 ton unit, which he suggested as our gas hot air furnace is a Goodman. Does the AC unit have to be the same brand as the heater, some quick research yielded less than great reviews of the Goodman AC unit. Anybody have any experience with this brand?
Thanks

you can install any brand you like however, if the ducting is sized strictly for heating, it will be undersized for cooling You may want to do your own load calculations and duct sizing.
HVAC Software, HVAC-Calc for Heat Loss, Heat Load Calculations (http://www.hvaccomputer.com/)
only $49.

I think we're OK for duct size; the guy doing the estimate didn't have any concerns but more importantly when the house was built in our development, we opted out of the central air option at the last minute as construction was almost completed. It's not a large house, approx. 1250 square feet.

Most company's that use goodman or similar brands tend to not do the best install costing you money on energy and a more trouble pron unit. I would look at least a 15 seer. With all the Ship or government is talking about a 19 seer may not be a bad option.
