We bought a house with slab foundation. Pulled up rugs in home to find cement floors with which to treat. Unfortunately vinyl tiles are underneath. I understand it will be extremely labor intensive to remove tiles. Is there a possibility to overlay tiles with some kind of cement-like material that would provide the cement floor look?

getting the tiles up shouldn't be too much of a problem. its getting the glue off, thats the problem. you should NOT tile over the vinyl.

Removing the glue is not all that hard if you have the right grinding equipment. We do it all of the time before we stain a slab. You'll definitely want to get back down to concrete. It would be unwise to overlay over vinyl.

Grinding cutback adhesive is not always a good idea. It can contain asbestos.
