I have a trane xe1200 and need to replace the capacitor as it is leaking out. I have 2 questions.

Has anybody bought a third party capacitor instead of a Trane one ?

What is the best way to discharge the capacitor ?

use your "beater" screwdriver, not your good one.

I don't think I have ever paid attention to the name brand of a cap. I replace them with whatever the nearest HVAC store hands me. Just be sure the ratings match up.
