I bought a home in 2004 and it was already had a security system wired in. I never received the code . I was wondering is there a way to reset the password ore just changing a component that will allow me to set up my own code without the hassle of setting up a monthly service?

No Pro..but you need to provide more info..brand and model, normally found inside the main panel where the battery is. Also, read the stickys in this forum, it may provide what you need, or so I've seen posted.

The bad news is that this is a DSC PC5010 heavily modified for Westinghouse/Westar Security (later absorbed by Protection One). As far as I know, the system is hardcoded for 6 digit installer codes, and the phone numbers may also be hard coded.
The good news is that the rest of the hardware, like the keypads is compatible with standard DSC power series panels.
There's not really a viable DIY project to try to gain control of this motherboard, your best bet is replacement.
