I have lived all over florida before. It looks like you have a heat pump or electric heat, but I think it's a heat pump [reverse cycle a/c] because of the jumper wire between X2 and W and the wire on O terminal. Does the existing thermostat have an emerg heat switch? Can you tell us about the new thermostat? For example the brand and model #?

sure it's a LUX TX9000TS...I dont see a/an emergency heat switch on the unit at all :)

I looked it up at the LUX website. I cannot be used for multistage heat pumps. Can I see a pic of the part you removed from the wall [the piece with the glass mercury bulbs] and also a pic of the rest of the device on the wall? Thanks. I don't think you'll be able to use that Lux thermostat.

That t-stat will not work with your system.. YOu'll need a multi stage t-stat like Honeywell RTH7500, or RTH7600.

want to be able to program it when to come on throughout the day/weekends....etc....ok so no go on this one :( so the other 2 you listed will work?

10 degrees....so in buying the 7500 or 7600 honeywell....what would my wiring hookup look like?

like red to r...blue to b...etc....

Looks good. You can dispense with tan, just tape it off. Install the black jumper wire from W2 to E. Good job on getting the blue wire in the right place, that's the one that causes problems on Trane units.

ok hooked up exactly like that and blowing hot air (not cold but luke warm) I see some settings in the manual about selecting right heat pump type...seen here:

pages 18-22 is what I am stumped on...what do i select? wife is yelling pissed at me :((((((

180 to 1 (I'm guessing you have electric back up?)
190 to 0 (If you are getting heat in the vent on cool mode, then change it to 1)
240 to 3
270 to 3
300 up 0
320 to 0
330 to 2
500 to 2
530 to 1
640 to 12
