I moved into a 6 year old custom home with a ADT security System. The previous owner did not know the code and ADT wanted $180 to stop the beeping and a new contract. I have tried every thing to stop the beeps from cutting the wiring to both control pads, unpluging the transformer, cutting all the wires to the circuit board, removing the battery in the control panel box, unpluging and removing all smoke detectors, throwing the breaker inthe electrical panel to the smoke detectors. The chirping continues.IT JUST WON'T STOP!I can not locate the ALARM SIRENS in the attic and when I go up into the ATTIC I can not hear the CHIRPS, so i can not tract them down and THROW THEM AWAY. I have this blown installation so its difficult to trace the wiring.
PLEASE help me.
Thanks,
Bernie

At the point where you unplugged the battery and transformer, and the chirping continued, you were chasing the wrong sound source!

There is _something else_ in your home _that is not connected to the alarm system_ that is chirping!

It could be a regular AC/DC hardwired smoke alarm, a carbon monoxide detector, or even a forgotten child's toy stuck in a drawer or closet.

The only alarm devices that have independent power are the wireless transmitters, and _they_ don't have sounders (with the exception of a couple of fairly uncommon smoke detector models...)

Ron,
Thanks so much for your response. I turned off the power at the breaker box and the beeps continued,so it must be on some type of battery. If all else fails hopefully the battery will go dead.I've lived hear for 3 years and thie just started. Its a one level house and you can not hear the beeping in the attic.but its very clear on the first floor. It sounds like its comming through the air vents or smoke detectors vents but when I get up close to them it sounds like its comming from somewhere else.
Any other suggestions you may have will be checked out. My carbon mon. detector is pluged in to a electrical outlet and its ok.
Thanks agan for your quick response,
Bernie

Use a papertowel cardboard roll to your ear to try and isolate the direction of the sound.

I read a blooper where a homeowner had drywalled over a smoke alarm that had been pushed up out of the way and forgotten. He waited a month hoping the battery would run down, before he finally cut a hole and pulled it out of the ceiling.
