Can the same type of stain used for composite doors to have a faux wood grain be used for plastic ?

will it adhere to plastic the same ?

The answer to your second question is the most important. Look at the directions on the can.

The answer to your first question is yes - if the answer to the second question is yes.

It can be used but it can be tricky. The plastic isn't porous so it doesn't stain well. One trick is to take a small amount of varnish/poly and add some of the pigment from the bottom of the stain can [after it's settled], mix together and then paint just the plastic with it.
