In 2000 I had Keystone shower doors installed over my tub. On the bottom of the track the contractor applied caulking to the outermost side. No caulking was applied to the tub side of the track (from the underside or after installation). From day one water has seeped underneath and stagnated. It smells really bad. In the past I've tried blasting it with hot water from a steam cleaner, that helped some.
I took the track off with the intention of caulking both sides then found the installation instructions and sure enough it says to only apply to the outside of the track!!! That makes no sense!
Now I don't know what to do. I'm not going to follow the instructions again and only apply caulking to the outside - that just does not work.
The one problem I can see in caulking both sides is that as the doors are opened and closed the track rocks up and down potentially breaking the seal.
Also I can't get all the caulk off the underside of the track - will that be a problem?
Any advice or suggestions.
I need to do something quick - I have wedding guests staying in my house in 2 weeks.
