I have an older model Whirlpool washer. Had been working fine, then it stopped agitating. I replaced the direct drive plastic coupler, which was cracked. Put everything back together and ran a cycle, which worked fine . It filled and agitated. So I turned the control knob to the finishing cycle to get rid of the water and stop...which it did.
Every cycle since that first cycle. The machine simply fills with water and would to overflow if I didnt stop it. I can turn the knob to the rinse cycle and the machine will pump the water out and spin. However, in the clean cycle, it wont stop filling.
This older model has the sliding lever to select machine load size.(small to the left and large to the right...there is also a reset position all the way to the right, I have slide the lever to reset and then back to small to no avail)
I've tried pulling the plug for an hour or so, so the machine would reset perhaps...to no avail. It almost seems like the cycle programing is messed up and needs to be reset. Is there a way to do that with these older models??
Thanks

The water level selection switch, which is a water pressure switch, is shot. Or, more likely, the tubing that travels between the bottom-side of the machine, going to the selector switch, is pinched or clogged with gunk, and not allowing water pressure in the tube to tell the switch to shut off.

Would that be in the area of the pump and motor that I had apart? If I crimped some how that would allow a continual feed of water or low level of water?
Where does the tube start from?

tube goes from the right rear side of the tub to the water level switch in the console. if it is blocked or damaged the water will never stop filling.

open consul first tube usually will be unplugged from switch. Happens when you move machine.

BINGO...Thanks! tube is cut really tight not much excess. Came off when I replaced Coupler. Mother-in-Law was sooo happy, she owes me a few dinners!
