:wall:I am having a problem with my 18hp Craftsman riding mower LT1000. Once I start my mower, which it fires up right away, it will run for about 15-20 minutes and then it spudders and stalls. Then I can start it back up right away and after a few minutes it stalls again and again and again. I have replaced my fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, and sprayed carb. clearner and checked the oil level. There are alo no blockages in my gas tank. I checked the gas cap and it seems fine. I have no idea what else it could be. Please advise.

Check for spark as soon as the engine quits.. Also check around the wire harness for any signs if it rubbing on something,,, Also, maybe post the engine numbers in case the pros see it & say "" this always goes on this model engine"" Roger

Did you try running it with the gas cap loosened?

I have a similar problem with a Craftsman 18hp Tractor, 42 in deck, Model 917.273762. It appears the engine isn't getting gas. It just stops running. Fuel filter has been replaced. All other filters are clean. The plastic/glass in the fuel filter line has no gas in it when the tractor stops running. It seems to happen after running for about an hour, as if it's because it's hot. Let it sit for a period of time and it's good to go--but only until it's hot again --or whatever is causing this. Any ideas?

I have since replaced the carburetor and the gas cap and it is still stalling out after about 10 minutes or so of running. It is a B&S engine model #31H777 Type 0297 E1. Please advise. Thanks for everyone suggestions.

What #s can you give us? Engine and mower #s would be good. Does yours have a fuel pump? Have you checked for flow to the carb from the tank?

Cheese,
I have a briggs and stratton engine on my craftsman riding mower. The engine model number is 31H777 Type 0297 E1. It runs for about 10-15 minutes and then sputters and stalls out. Then I restart it ride it for another minute or two and then it stalls again. Now as of yesterday I can no longer start it. I have replaced the spark plug, the air filter, the gas cap, the carburator, put fresh gas in, and changed the oil. can you please advise on my next step, I've heard it cold be my armature magneto? Any thoughts?

Have you checked the things we mentioned? (spark, fuel flow) Without you performing some checks, we can't tell what's wrong with it.

I am assuming I have spark since it does start right back up. I tried the armature magneto and it is not that. As far as the fuel flow, I took the fuel hose off of the carburator and it seems to flow fine. Is tere another was to check the flow of fuel. Thanks for everyone help while I try and fix this machine before biting the bullet and bringing it for service.

In a previous post you said it starts right back up in a minute or two. What everyone is trying to get you tell everyone here is - right after it quits, does it start right back up then?

Ass-U-Me:asume

If you can "confirm" that you have spark during the minute or two it will not start, then we can "assume"
it is a fuel problem.
If you have spark during that time when it will not start, try a squirt of gas in the carb, this may confirm that it is a fuel problem.
You said you replaced the carb, does it have a fuel solenoid and did you change that as well?
If you would answer a post with a reply instead of going back and editing your post that generated the question, it would be most beneficial as well.
