I have a Heatalator insert in my fireplace. I took the glass out to clean it, but am having issues. I can't seem to get it clean. I have cleaned it with soapy water, windex and vinegar. All appear to work at first and glass is crystal clear, but when the glass dries a mysterious white haze slowly reappears. Any tips on how to clean this? I sure don't want to replace the glass if it isn't necessary.

There is a product called White-Off that works wonders. Make sure you check the condition of the glass seal.

Thanks. I will do that. Where can I purchase White-Off? Lowes, Ace ? or someplace more specialized.

Here's a link...White-Off Glass Cleaner 8 oz. (http://www.northlineexpress.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=5RU-565)

I would think a stove or fireplace seller would have it, but it seems I may have seen it at one of the Big Box stores. Probably only during the fireplace selling season though.

Your local hearth shop should have it. You use it like waxing a car, but with a little more elbow grease and you may have to do it several times. You'll be amazed !

Also, do not use a scraper of any sort !!!! If you do, you will soon be the proud new owner of squeaky-clean, new, expensive glass!

Is the seal the older type that is made of orange silicone? If it is, it needs to be replaced because it will harden and leak causing carbon monoxide to enter your home.

Went to Hearth Shop. They carried "Perkins GFC" brand cleaner. Owner said it was same stuff as "White Off." It did a great job. Took 3 applications to get the glass really clean and had to really work at it, but it came out great. I used newspaper to apply and clean shop paper towels to wipe off and polish. Great advice gang. Thanks a ton.
