Finished hooking up my dishwasher and I better check before I turn it on.
The manual says it doesnt come with one but is this an airgap? This was already on my machine. I went to homedepot, where i bought it and asked them about it. They didnt know so I asked them to pull out the display model to show them. When they pulled the display out it didnt have this little white piece...It was just a loop in the tube.
Since the display is older then my new purchase, do you think LG recently added this?
Is this an airgap?
You can see I dont tie into my garbage disposal, I go right through the floor into a waste tee right under the washer.
PLZ HELP
Thanks

It looks like it could function as an air gap, but since you're going into the basement I wouldn't worry about. The loop will prevent any back siphoning. Are you piped to a trap ahead of the waste tee? BTW- I grew up in West Seneca.

So the fact that the discharge line comes that high anyways is ok, with or without the airgap?
this is how the setup looks
Picture says 1" from dishwasher but now that i think of it its 1/2" line from dishwasher

are you saying i need another trap in the basement? like a trap used under a sink?
what would its purpose be?

A trap stays filled with water and prevents sewer stink and gasses from coming back up the pipes. Is there another trap downstream on that 1-1/2 line? I don't see many air gaps much anymore, the high loop is to prevent drain water from siphoning back.

wont the high loop also prevent sewer gases coming up too?
if not, can I put a loop(creating a trap) in the discharge line to block the gases?
Theres really no room for a trap down there. Everything is close to the subfloor.
If I need a trap maybe I will just buy some more hose and make an extender to get to the disher washer.
The dishwasher is not next to the sink. The discharge line would have to go through a 36x36 lazy s and then a 9" cabinets just to get to under the sink.

It's the water in the trap that blocks the backflow. Can you 90 your line sideways under the subfloor, put in a trap, then pipe back to the sanitary tee. Does the 1-1/2" line run thru a floor joist cavity [parallel in between 2 floor joists] or perpendicular and under the floor joists? If it's perpandicular, you should enough room to sneak a trap in.
