My Hotpoint Washer clunks as the agitator is moving. I am able to pull the agitator up and down quite a bit until the place where it is unable to come off. It is noisy at first in spin but spins eventually great. How do I fix it. I can't imagine that it should be THAT noisy.:wall: HELP!
I do not want to ruin the agitator any further.

the agitator should not be able to move up and down like that. pull hard on the bottom of the agitator and it should pop off the air bell Couplinge. i suspect the couplinge is damaged. see if it will make the noise with the agitator removed.

If I take the agitator off then what should I look for and what should I replace parts or the whole thing. Estimate of how much the part will cost just in general If you have any idea.
Also will I still be able to use it in the meantime if I put the agitator back on.
