I'm building a 12x16 shed on skids (4x6) with a crushed stone base (5"). I would like to use 2x6 joists instead of 2x8 for less height but that would require a minimum of 3 skids. On a gravel base I'm concerned that more than 2 contact points for the joists, may with even a little settling of the gravel, leave one of the skids floating. Any thoughts or advise would be appreciated.

If you oversize the base by 1 foot all the way around and compact it well there should be no problem with settling. Pour in 1/2 of the gravel fill, wet it down and compact it. Add the rest of the fill, wet it down good again and compact it. Wet it down heavy after the last compaction and you should be good to go.
