My living room is about 12x21. I am replacing an area 12x12 because there had been termites in the past and there was a lot of loose boards around the fireplace. Come to find out the reason for the loose boards was the boards were nailed to anything. They did not run the subfloor all the way to the fireplace. The subfloor now is 1x12 and by the way the house is eighty years old. I'm planning on putting plywood in for a subfloor. The 1x12s that are there now run under the walls so I will have to cut them off. My question is when I cut off the 1x12s how much do I leave from the wall and the part of the floor where I ended the run and which way should I run the plywood? thanks
