Hi I live in Minnesota. I have a bad problem with wild violets and creeping charlie in my backyard. I am wondering what I should do:

1. Spray weed killer on and wait a week to two weeks before reseeding with fertilizers.

2. Scrape off the really bad areas and reseed wait a couple weeks and then start spraying for weeds.
---Wild violets are going to be a major pain to scrap off because of the thick roots.

Any recommendations.

Thanks

Glyophosphate kills just about everything but sometimes takes more than one application. I'd spray now, again in two weeks and a third time in another two weeks. Now's not a good time to plant grass in MN anyway - wait 'til the summer heat breaks around the end of August.

OrthoŽ Weed B GonŽ Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis Killer - Scotts Miracle-Gro (http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?tabs=general&proId=prod70214&itemId=cat50064&id=cat50008)

This product is formulated for what you are dealing with and will not kill regular lawn grasses. It may take more than one/several applications especially with violets.

If your local hardware store does not stock this, and most big boxes might or might not since it's not a high volume sellers, then ask them to order it for you.All major hardware store chains will have this available through their warehouse.

I advise you to wait until Labor Day and beyond to seed. The grass seed will not take as well if at all this time of year. You will see more weeds than grass growing.

After Labor Day may be fine in Nebraska but that's generally a week or two late for Minnesota, three for northern MN.
