I have a 228 MercCruiser with a 305 chevy v8 in my old 1979 Century 3000 I/0.
The problem is this: When I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, the power steering pump starts to buck on the belt, and it stalls the engine. When you turn 98% of the way, no problem. When you turn completely to the the right, no problem. Just left.
Any ideas?
Ed

I haven't seen that before but without actually seeing it I would bet it's a bad reliefe valve in the pump.

thanks for the reply:
i just coudnt figure how the pump would be different turning right or left. ie. high pressure out, low pressure in. I thought it would be more likley something in the valve system moving the drive right or left. (of course that is without having the slightest idea how that system works).
