I bought a new toilet two weeks ago because my old toilet was leaking at the bolt that connects the tank to the base. my new toilet is leaking in the same place. I have tightened the bolt (but not too much). I don't understand why this keeps happening in the same spot. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Check to make sure the tank is not crack, not even a small line crack or small piece chipped away in around the bolt area (assume the leak is from near there, but some time the leak is from far away, you need to check the tank carefully). And make sure you have a good (new) rubber gasket under the bolt. This should fix your problem.

What he said. But the fact that it seems to be the same problem is coincidence. Tank to base bolts can leak if an older toilet is moved or somehow joggled, bumped, etc. Otherwise they will go forever without leaking. If the new toilet is leaking, it has nothing to do with the location or the old toilet. My guess is the bolts/rubber washers were not properly centered or tightened incorrectly.
