I have a whirlpool washer 8 cycle, 5 speed that doesnt spin. it will work on addigitate but wont go any further. i turn the knob and get nothing. every now and then when i put it on spin or rinse i get this ticking. ideas? havent told the wife yet. help, help.

The model # will help. Is it a top loader? Does it drain?

check lid switch if the motor doesnt try to run in spin

I think your safety switch under lid was broken,wired direct works fine now,or you can buy new switch kind of a pain to get to,went between drum and cover..

Thank YOU, THank You, Thank YOU. once again i got online with my wife's resistance and show her that i could get info off the information highway. it was the lid switch. 43.00 and it works fine. i deeply appreciate it, thanks again.
