I put our window unit in and I guess I didn't put it away properly last year, there is a mildew smell coming from the unit, How can I get rid of this smell? Someone mentioned some kind of algae pellets may work. Anyone heard of these? Any other suggestions?

Yank it out, take it apart and clean it. try to not get the fan motor wet.
