I noticed some black streaks/small areas in the translucent discharge line on my dishwasher which is only a few years old; never noticed this before but assume it is mildew that might be the result of lack of use since the dishwasher might be used only once a week. Can some run a bleach solultion through the system that might treat that issue or is there something else that might work; what I want to make sure is that whatever is used will be safe for the dishwasher componants.

I wouldn't put bleach in the machine. Try disconnecting the hose and flush it out with bleach.
