This is a question about my dress shirts although it's not about how to clean them. I have a problem when I wear (or try to) a button-down collared shirt, especially when I put on a tie. The collar of the shirt rubs my neck in such a way that I get a rash and must take off the shirt. I cannot wear polyester cotton and even some all cotton shirts cause this problem. However, some shirts made of all cotton don't give me the problem. Is there something I can do to take care of this problem?

Are these new shirts or after they're cleaned? If cleaned, are you washing them or sending them to the cleaners? Are the collars being starched? If they're starched, maybe change to lightly starched or no starch. Could be the stiffness is irrating your neck. Also, when you buy them, the more expensive they are, the higher the thread count, and the softer the cotton is.

I agree with eliminating starch. Might be worth trying a slightly larger collar size as well.
