Need to replace motor bearings and I can't get the impeller off. I've got the shaft held with a wrench, but no amount of force can get the impeller off, turning per hayward manual, counter clockwise. Any tricks or suggestions? Thanks.

No tricks, just a battle. You can use a oil filter wrench that has a rubber loop to hold impellar and turn.

thanks, tried a strap wrench, no luck. Hate to have to replace the impeller by putting a pipe wrench on it. Maybe someone's done this before.

You do know that it's a left-hand thread, right? Most of them are, at least. You can always tell by which way the motor runs. They're always threaded in such a way that the normal operation of the motor would tighten the impeller on the shaft.
(Sorry if you knew that already. Just thought it would be worth mentioning before you break a motor shaft.)
