My Ademco Vista (either 20P or 15P) alarm system started beeping - the indicator "Chime Bat" is displayed.
Is there a separate chime battery that needs to be replaced, or do I need to replace the big black battery in the locked box? - or something else?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA

If BAT is displayed without a number, then it is the battery in the main box. If it shows a zone number, then it's a wireless transmitter battery.
If you replace the panel battery, wait 24 hours for it to charge. If it's fully charged, press your code + 5 to test the siren on battery, and after a few seconds the "BAT" indicator should clear. Then press your code +1 to take out of test mode.

Same problem Chime Bat, Pulled the battery shows good voltage. Also I loose the LED back light. I can power down sometime and all is well and then does the same again. I am running on Battery only now and seem to work fine. Thanks

Ok, one more time:
On an ademco style system (which includes many of the "ADT" systems.
"Chime" means that the chime function is turned on.
"BAT" means that the system backup battery needs to be replaced.
Testing the battery without loading it means nothing.
The system stress tests the battery once a day, it may not have failed yet, but it is on it's way out.
The only other time you will see the BAT is in conjuction with a zone number for a wireless transmitter, or if the system has lost AC power and the system is running on battery power too long.
All of this is in the user manual. (websearch term: "system model user manual")

MrRonFl:
I heard you the first time. I put a new battery in this afternoon. I really do appreciate your help. Now I need to get me a 6160 so I can program some new sensors etc.
Again Thanks

That was for the benefit of the next 30 people who find this thread from a Google search and bypass both their user manual and the FAQ.
