I'm planning to install a Sanyo 24KHS72 mini-split.
It comes with a 20 foot line set.
24KHS72 - Sanyo 24,200 BTU Heat Pump Air Conditioner Kit (http://www.minisplitsystems.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=24KHS72)
The outdoor pad will only be about 10 feet from the indoor unit.
I estimate 12 to 13 feet of the line-set will be needed.
So, the AC tech will likely cut about 7 to 8 feet off the 20 foot line set.
Will a shorter line-set mean he has to remove some of the refrigerant from the system??
Thanks,
Rich

Yes he will have to recover some refrigerant.

Yes. Or have him loop the lineset so he doesn't have to rebalance the charge.

I suggest you read the installation instructions carefully. On many mini-splits the TXV is in the outdoor unit which means the smaller tube is an extension of the evaporator coil and cannot be shortened. Also, if your unit is like that, both lines have to be insulated.

I have read both the service and install manuals.
They say that more R-410A needs to be added if the lines are over 33 feet.
(O.27 ounces per foot).
But says nothing about a minimum length. So, I called tech
support at the vendor and found they recommend a
minimum length of 10 feet.
He said the outdoor unit has an 'Accumulator' in it.
It shows up in the diagram on the input to the compressor.
Between the compressor and the 4-way valve.
