I would like to give my metal desk a dark, wood-like finish. Is there such a paint or varnish that will create the illusion of wood without looking tacky?

There are several faux finish products and tools to accomplish the task, most every paint store has them. It is an art, to make something look like wood, but if you are willing to put in the time, there are books to teach you how. Basically a ground coat, and then several glaze coats, and a protective coat at the end. Give it a try........here is a link to steer you in the right direction:

Thank you, Bigg Billy,

Guess that's exactly what I needed...if more than I expected to chew on. :)

I appreciate your input and the link.
