I live in Tennessee and recently saw termite swarmers with and without wings outside the house. While that isn't a sign of infestation of the house itself, it's a reminder that they are in the immediate area looking for a good meal.

I had been meaning to get a preventive termite treatment anyway, and called to get a Termidor estimate. However, what I didn't know was that my crawl space is supposed to be treated on the inside of the foundadtion walls and around the support columns also. An earlier treatment for a previous home was just around the outside perimeter of the home (different company).

The crawl space treatment concerns me because my wife is pregnant and I don't want to add any dangerous toxins to our inside environment. It has been surprisingly hard to find any safety information regarding this. I.e. will it evaporate and cause toxic fumes in our home? Do liquid spills on the moisture barrier and garage slab dry and create toxic dust? The pest control guy says it's super safe of course, but he's hardly objective.

So I guess that leaves me with three alternatives:

1. Not treat. Asking for trouble?
2. Full treatment. Safe?
3. Partial / outside-only trenching treatment. Probably won't come with the same warranties. Is there any point to this?

Opinions, please!!!

Thanks! :)

Hi Husbus,

I truly understand your concerns. We had to have a termite treatment around the perimeter of our home. Within a week we found 6 dead toads. :( Find out exactly which product(s) they will be using and do some googling for the ingredients. If you can't find the info just lmk as I have all kinds of info on pesticides.
