First, I'm sorry for posting so many similar questions (I wish I could edit or delete prior posts). I have recieved some good advice here, but I'm not sure if I want low voltage, line voltage, magnetic or electronic transformers, 3" or 4", gimbal or slot trim..... ect, ect.....
Anyhow, instead of asking specifics, I think it might be better to just ask what you guys would do.

Here's a 'rough' draft of my living room layout (don't have a program, so this was the best I could do with Microsoft Paint).

It's obviously NOT to scale, but the yellow circles represent the recessed lights. The room dimensions are 19x14.5 with 8' ceilings. I'd don't want to buy the best, because I plan to move in a few years, but I do want soft/comfortable lighting, dimmers, and no glare or interference with my plasma tv.

I'm thinking of using four 5" Halos in the center for general lighting and maybe 3" or 4" around the outside for accent/wall washing. I'd also like to use two seperate dimmers for the general and accent lights.

What would you guys use???? Brand, Size, Trim??

THANKS

I think your layout is pretty good. I suggest maybe adding another two larger cans roughly over what I assume is the couch. (Between the other two groups) I suggest getting 6" cans because they are cheaper and you have more options for trims. Plus the 1" difference in size is not a big deal. I would put in 3 switches. One for the lights by the TV. One for the general 5" or 6" cans and one for the small wall washers. I would use any of the cans/trims/brands from Lowes or Home Depot. Although we mostly use Halo or Juno.

Thanks for the reply!!! Great advice to put the lights closest to the TV on a seperate dimmer.

Actually, the back set of 5" can are just behind the couch (the pic I posted is terrible for scale), and the back wall-wash lights are spaced MUCH farther apart then the pic leads you to believe.

I found some 5" Halos at Lowes for around $15.

And for the 3" cans I'm thinking:
Halo 3" H36RTAT line voltage

with Halo 3009's Gimbals for the wall washing / accent lighting

and Halo 3001's Slot Aperatures in front of the TV

What do you think?????? My ceiling is off white, what color trims should I use?

A small note: the 3" cans you posted (Halo 3" H36RTAT) are not IC rated so you must keep insulation 3" away. You should check all your cans for the IC rating if you will have insulation.

5" can = $15 6" can = $6. Trims are cheaper too.

Most trims come in white and typically look good and any ceiling.
