I need to replace a section of bathroom subfloor that is rotten around tub and toilet. I have 2 layers of subfloor. Top layer is 3/4 presswood. Bottom layer is 1/2 or 5/8 partical board. Bottom layer looks ok but top layer needs replaced. I want to cut top layer as close to the wall as possible and remove it and leave bottom layer. What kind of saw can I use to cut as close as possible to the walls and 3/4 deep.

The best tool would be a reciprocating saw and a careful hand. But definitely remove the particle board, as it will harbor the moisture and mold, and will swell unevenly. I would replace it with 3/4" Advantech or similar product, which is made for subflooring.

Be sure you solve the cause of the rot.

Chandler makes a good point about particle board. Any particle board that you have in that bathroom should go. If you plan on installing ceramic or natural stone, it is a must that the partcicle board must go. Particle board cannot be used as a subfloor/underlayment for ceramic or natural stone tile.
