Dump gas from the can into a clean. empty plastic milk bottle. Let it sit for a while, and if there is water, it will clearly separate from the gas. There are additives called dry gas or gas antifreeze. If you find water, but not much, I would dump it in my car and then fill the car with fresh gas and also refill the mower can and tank with fresh gas.

Adding methanol to the gas will absorb the water but for a small amount I would follow goldstar's advice and put it in my car, take it to the gas station and fill it up to dilute the contaminated gas.
There are special funnels that have water separators that you can pour the gas through and it will trap fine sediment and water and only let the clean gas through, but the filtering funnel will cost more than the gas you are saving.
