We currently have solid wood oak flooring, with wormholes and knots. The plan is to do the kitchen and bath with a vinyl type flooring of some type. Any advice on surface prep? I assume I will need a floor leveler. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a ton people!!

I love vinyl tile. Its a great do it yourself project. If you screw up on a cut, you toss that tile aside and get another!! If you screw up a sheet, you can kiss that sheet goodbye!!

I used this in my bathroom over existing vinyl tile and also in the kitchen over a wood luan type subfloor! So far 2 yrs later no problems. Actually tore one up b/c I punctured one w/ a screwdriver and replaced it in about 5 minutes.

About your subfloor, as long as there aren't any big divets or anything you should be ok. They should also stick pretty well. My coworker installed these in his bathroom in the basement that was concrete about 2.5 yrs ago and haven't had any problems. When I installed mine, I put a dab of liquid nails on each corner and one in the center of each tile for added security.
Here is a pic of my finished kitchen.
This is 12x12 vinyl tile. 300sq. ft of it.
