I have an Ademco 20F with a 5160RF keypad. I purchased these along with three 5816 wireless door sensors along with motion detectors and sounder as a package. After much frustration, I am hearing that it is very difficult to program the system without an alpha-numeric keypad. I don't want to spend another $100+ on another keypad. I don't understand why Honeywell would package a system like this that is so difficult to setup with out the additional keypad. Does anyone know how to do the 5816 setup using the 5160RF keypad? Are there any other options short of buying the alpha-numeric keypad? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you don't have a Vista 20P and a 6150rf keypad?
It will be very difficult to program the sensors without an alpha keypad. I have seen professionals do it, but it takes alot of skill and knowledge. Does the company that you bought the equipment from offer downloading services?

Alarm system installation instructions and assumptions are based on professional installers that have access to either factory training or technical info.
For good or ill, the alarm industry has not embraced the DIY installer market (understandable given the liability involved with security systems).
That said, your parts supplier should have been a bit clearer about that. That's one reason why many vendors have the installer manuals on their sites for download.
If you can find a friend or neighbor that has a 2-line alpha keypad on their system, you can borrow it to configure your system. Otherwise, you might find one cheap on an auction site. (The older 6139 model will work just fine for this purpose).

Thanks for the quick response MrRonFL. I am starting to shop around for an alpha keypad.
kcxj, you are correct, the controller is a 20P. I can't find any downloading services at the dealer's web site.

Enter the following phrase into your favorite search engine:
"Vista 20p installer manual"
This is a dirt-common system, and there are tons of sites with the installer manual for free.
