I have a river birch that each year suffers from Yellow Leaf Chlorosis when the weather starts to warm up here in St. Louis. I've read that a combination of adding iron and lowering the pH can be an effective treatment. Do you have any suggestions on a product I can use?
Thanks!!!

try a product called Ironite or an application of 15-0-15 fertilizer.

I have a River Birch with the same problem. It otherwise looks to be very healthly and grows like a weed. The tree looks great but does drop leaves each year, it has already started this year.
Is this something I need to be concerned about for the longterm health of the tree?

since you mentioned the leaves dropping i did a little looking.
the yellowing is probably not chlorosis. take a look at this :
Leaf Blight and River Birch Leaf Shed (http://msucares.com/newsletters/pests/infobytes/19980903.htm)

Possiblility... but I really does look like Chlorosis. First, it is happening in the spring and early summer. The Article notes that leaf blight generally happens in the late summer. Also, the yellow leaves on my tree have the green veins that corresponds to the description of chlorosis I've seen. though. .i'm definitely not an expert and I appreciate the follow-up.
The article notes leaf blight generally does not cause long term damage to the tree. Does chlorosis?
Thanks

no, but it's indicitive of soil nutrition issues that you should address. you won't see the leaves going back to green like a lawn would but the new leaves should be fine.
