I planted two potentilla plants (they are bushes) late last summer. They both had flowers then. In the last week one of the plants have flowers and the other does not. They are in the same small area (four plants apart). These plants have a one year guarantee but my friend tells me to wait (it is only early June now) Is it possible that this plant will not bloom this year, but will bloom next year?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Karen,

Potentilla are usually carefree plants. If you planted large shrubs I'm thinking that maybe the one that isn't blooming was pruned back last year before you purchased it and that is why it's late to bloom. You also don't say where you live, but maybe they tend to bloom later where you live and the one that is blooming now is just a bit different genetically. Do you know the names of the cultivar(s)?
