Hi,

We're looking to use Travertine tile for our bathroom remodel. Our favourite is Ivory Travertine 12x12 honed with holes filled.

We saw a wide variety of pricing on these Travertine tiles from under $2 up to almost $10 per sft. Is there a quality difference, is there A and B stock? Can there be low quality of filling the holes? What should I look for when buying these tiles?

We don't mind paying a little more if we get a higher quality product for it. But if it's all the same, well...

Thanks for any suggestions!
Alex

I don't know what you saw that was worth $10 but I hope you could see a difference between $4 and $7 a ft. travertine.

The $2 stuff was either junk or odd lots, it can't be very good. Travertine comes in a variety of colors which because of their beauty and availability are worth different amounts.

Each color is categorized into 3 grades. The cheapest is "Commercial", then "Standard", the best is "Select".

So, color, quality, then we have the finish. Honed, polished etc. Then the size and pattern if any. Edge finish like chiseled and others.

So you see, there are many factors that give you a value of a piece of travertine, marble granite etc. Kinda like a diamond.
