anyone have a link to a .5 foot rj45 male to female couple pre assembled and crimped,quality... cant find anything but the regular plastic thru connectors..basically a pre assembled pigtail

You want a six-inch long flexible cable with a RJ-45 plug on one end and a RJ-45 jack on the other end? May I ask why? Wouldn't it be simpler to get a RJ-45 cable long enough to go from whatever you are connecting to the jack?

You may have to make your own by cutting one end off a patch cord and connecting the wires to a female jack (w/punch down block) like a Quick Port insert. Shrink-wrap the jack end.

I wanted a small adaptor to live in the ethernet jack so it does not get worn out by unplugging a cord out of it 5 times a day. I always disconnect when I am finished. good policy.I am wrecking my port. and I want a 1 piece crimped item to avoid loose connections. I have seen what I want before but cant seem to find it at the cables sites... Sounds like you read one to many e-mails of doom and are over paranoid. Use a router to provide a hardware firewall plus a good software firewall and you should be OK. If you are using Windows though and really want to be safe dump it and go with Linux. Now days some versions like PCLinux OS are easier to use then Windows, cost you nothing , and are a lot safer to use.

I've been on Ubuntu for ages..... and its still a good idea to unplug..

Hmmm how about just using a little project box and a switch to break on or 2 lines? I could probably dig through parts bins in the garage and come up with what I needed.
