Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody has ever used a wooden bath mat. I saw a nice example in myer and I was wondering if they work well. I was also wondering if anybody has made one. The ones I have seen for sale in stores are made from pine that has been stained and sealed. When I did an internet search I saw some very nice cedar and teak mats. Im sure I could make one without much hassle. Anyway could anyone think of any negatives or positives for for the ideas above?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums! We have installed them in outside shower areas near pools and in shower stalls at hunting lodges, etc. where the floors are concrete and they give a nice standing platform. I would be reluctant to place one in a fabricated tub or shower due to the curvature of the bottom of the tub versus the flatness of the platform. Undue pressure on the sides of the edge of the floor of the tub will cause premature failure. However, to answer your question, if you can find teak or cypress, that is your best bet. Secondly cedar comes to mind. The pine units are last on the list since they are made, then stained and finished. The joints aren't stained, nor are they finished, so guess where the rot starts??? With cypress or teak, no finish is necessary. Additional thought, if you can find IPE Ironwood flooring and rip it down to 2" wide strips, it will make an excellent platform.
Good luck with the project!
