Greetings...I was recently given a Maytag Nep.4000...upon testing before installing, the machine would cut off after app.45sec. If I pushed the start button again, it would continue filling...As long as I kept pressing the button it would run...when it seemed to be full of water it would start making a humming sound like it was TRYING to continue with the wash cycle. I am almost convinced that I have adopted a perfect "boat anchor". Any advice would be wonderful!!!
Thanks...Chris.

Boat anchor would be a upgrade for that piece of junk. Would not spend a dime on that washer.

I certainly appreciate your time....I assume you were being litereal as far as your overall opinion of the MAH4000, I detected a serious bit of sarcasm, out of simple curiosity...what would be you're best guess as to where to start for a possible remedy if I were actually stupid enough to attempt to repair it?

in the top console there should be a tech sheet with many tests you could run. visually check the control board while your in there for burn resistors.

More than just a hint of sarcasm. I think it is the worst washer built. David is right look under consul for tech sheet and run the tests. Keep us posted.

Thanks, Gentlemen....I have to give it a try, without spending too much money! I can't just simply toss it out...It's just not in my nature unless I at least give it an honest effort....I shall apply your advice about the tech sheet and let you know what happens!!

In an earlier post on this machine I asked if anyone had a circuit diagram for the MAH4000. I never found a circuit diagram on line, I was hoping another DIYer had gone to the trouble. I did a partial schematic on mine, enough to understand how it blew up but not why. It is amazing that one design flaw can screw up such an otherwise good product. When my Q6 blew the eruption caused a conductive path to ground through the circuit board mounting stud. In shorting this to ground also caused the melting of a narrow circuit board trace nearer the 32v power supply. I replaced several resistors, a few transistors and triacs. I powered it up but nothing came on. The total cost was about $1.75 in parts but since I don't know if the shorted line also took out the motor control parts down below, I gave up. New LG is on the way for a net $339.
so to Spain255: I would check the wax motor for the door, Q6, and R11. Otherwise, don't spend more than that on this machine.

I have one, and would probably not buy another one, but in all fairness, it has been running for over 10 years with only one board replacement and one wax motor at the door. My advice, strip it down and sell the parts. There are a bunch of Maytags out there that need parts.

I have one of these, and had the "no spin" problem back in 2001 or 2002. There was an extensive thread on this website about that problem back then, and it really helped me a lot. Unfortunately all threads from 2004 and older appear to have been purged.
Luckily at the time, Maytag had already admitted the problem and sent me a new circuit board and door boot without any cost or hassle. I had to buy my own wax motor, however. It continues to work like brand new since installing the new parts. Hopefully I didn't just jinx it...
