First post here so hope this isn’t too much of a long story but I think it’s all important (or hope it is).... Recently our laundry room light's ballast started going bad and instead of replacing the ballast we replaced the entire light fixture(cheaper than new ballast) in the laundry room there has always been a motion sensor and when we replaced the light fixture the fluorescent bulbs were constantly flickering. Found out that the motion sensor switch was not designed for the electronic ballast. Ordered a Leviton Motion switch (model IPP15-1L) that was designed to work with the new ballast, and here is where it all goes wrong... I removed the interim hard switch we had been using and tried to install the new switch with one of two results, either the lights were always on, and the push button that’s in the switch wasn’t working, and the LED on the motion sensor switch was not on in any way (solid for on, Flashing for auto) Or the lights wouldn’t come completely on dim and flickering but the LED on the switch would cycle through its options off, solid on, and flashing. I have put the hard switch back in because I am at a loss:wall::wall::wall: any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Looking at the Leviton web site it says for that model it requires a neutral (white) wire connection. Not having a neutral can cause some funny things to happen. Do you have this in your box?
Sometimes these switch can be tricky so be sure you read the directions that came with the switch.

I had the same problem. I finally figured out which wire was neutral, (Had not been used with the previous hard switch) and wired it per the instructions. It seemed to work right for about 30 seconds, then there was a blue flash from inside the switch and smoke came out.... it's a paperweight now... I'm still not sure what went wrong...

If you have two wire switch loop majorty of the motion sensor will not work with most ballast especially electronic ballast that is the most common cupirt with two wire motion senser.

The true motion sensor with netural in there will work just about any load as it will be on the list.

And if you don't have netural in the switch box it get very tricky to deal with it.

Oh Yeah PLEASE do not use the ground conductor { bare } as netural it not allowed to do that.
The reason is safety issue.

Merci.
