Hello,
Need recomendations for glass break detector. The old one I believe was an Acuity DSC AC100. Something cause it to fail with no notification to me via my remote control. However, I was still able to set my alarm. When I first installed it, it tested ok and I did see the notification on my remote. When any protected door or window is opened or a contact fails, I cannot set my alarm until the problem is corrected. I do have a bypass function but I don't use it. So sometime this past 6 months, the glass breaker detector failed and this Spring I discovered it locked in the alarm position with no notification to me. I do not know if it failed from exposure to cold tempertures or nearby lightning strike. When I interupted the power to it to re-set it, all appears ok. But when I try to manually creat an alarm by striking a iron pipe with a hammer, it no longer went into alarm like when I tested when it was new. When it was new, I was able to make it go ino alarm from 20 feet into the next room. This detector must have failed when the alarm was not set.
The detector was installed on a 1 by 8 wood frame, right next to a glass block window it protected. I also have a home made storm window made up of 1 by 3's and clear sheeting that covers the glass block window which is 7 foot wide by 2.5 foot high. The detector is installed between both.
My alarm panel is an old 12 volt Ademco Vista 4120. All appears ok with it. All contacts and smoke detectors are working and tested recently. All my home electronics are working.
Any ideas on why this detector failed? Lightining? Freezing tempertures? What glass break detector would you recommend?

The second law of thermodynamics has never been repealed: entropy always increases...
For a hardwired glass break any of the major brands (DSC, Honeywell/Ademco, GE, etc. will perform just fine).
Look at the models you like the look of, and swap it out.

I supposed thats what I'll have to do.
Only this time, the detector will be moved away from the window and won't be exposed to freezing temperatures or excessive heat.
