I have an old, antique chest. It is a Roos chest, I saw one on ebay a while ago for ~$400. The chest has paint on it (I am removing this) and top of the chest is covered in veneer (which is also painted). The venerr has a few small cracks near the edge, they aren't that bad but you can certainly see where the small pieces have cracked off.

I am wondering what I should do with this? Do I leave it as it and just continue restoring this or do I take the veneer off and replace it? Or do I put a new layer of veneer over the top of the existing veneer (I have no idea how hard the existing veneer may be to take off)?

While I have no plans to sell this I always like to keep things in the best shape possible and I would rather not do anything to reduce the value of the chest.

Can any wood workers out there give me some advice?

Thanks.

Leave it as-is.

Replacing or covering the existing veneer will greatly reduce the value.
