Water Softeners and Air Filtration Systems - Cold water stinks

I live in the city of Guelph, Ontario. We are on city water. Recently, the cold water from my kitchen tap started to stink. We have had a water softener for 7 years now. This tap comes off the main line that continues on into the water softener and is the only tap in the house not softened.

The water has a plastic/chlorine smell to it. If we leave the taps on for a bit, it lessens in intensity but is still there. No other taps in the house have this smell. We contacted the city and they had recently performed a cleaning of the pipes but that was days ago.

Any ideas or suggestions to isolate the rpoblem before I spend a ton of $$$ to have a plumber come in?

If this is merely a chlorine residual issue from a one-time disinfection, extended rinsing will solve the problem. Just be patient and keep rinsing :D

If your municipality has increased their overall chlorine/chloramine residual then you might consider a good whole house chlorine removal system.
