Has any one ever trying a 4 inch garden auger or dirt auger or plant bulb auger (different names same product) for digging holes for 4 X4 posts for fencing
I have seen the Awesome Auger but that has only one disc I am more interested in the stepped type about 4 inches in diameter
I would like to get one to put in a 1/2 inch chuck corded drill and use it to go about 2 feet down for posts
I live in NE Florida and the soil is mostly sand no rocks
Any one have any luck mwith one of these augers
If you search on the internet theres plenty of these augers to choose from
Thanks

It probably isn't the auger itself, but getting something to turn it that will be your nemesis. If the soil is soft and no rocks, a standard post hole digger will work just fine. I doubt you will accomplish what you want using this garden tool.

Well I was thinking my 1/2 electric hammer drill on drill setting would do the trick it can run slow and strong

You've gotta dig a hole at least 2' deep to keep the posts upright, and I am afraid the bulb planter won't do the job. Is there a reason a regular post hole digger won't work for you?

And don't forget..a 4" auger probably won't make a big enough hole for a 4x4 post. You'd still have to dig it out.
If the soil is ok..just rent a 6" one man auger after marking the locations.

The minimum diameter for a 4x4 (3.5x3.5) would be 4.95 inches; would have to be perfectly vertical; and would leave no room to add dirt or concrete to set the post. You will need a 6 in. diameter hole. Use a post hole digger.
