A screw fastener has stripped out of wood chair. What is the best way to fill the stripped out wood hole so that the screw will take hold without it stripping again? Thanks.

They make small metal strips that you can cut to size and insert in the hole..they grip very well for most uses...
Or you could try coating some toothpics or wooden matchsticks with yellow glue, insert in the hole and trim to length then run in the screw. You'll need to let it sit for several hours.
No wood filler or putty will be strong enough.

I often drill out the screw hole and glue in a hardwood dowel, then redrill for the screw body size.

I do the same as Just Bill. The dowel rod wont come out and most are made from hardwood so the screw doesnt strip out as easily.
